چکیده

Basilar artery (BA) occlusion is a rare and devastating cause of ischemic stroke. Presenting symptoms are frequently non-specific include dizziness, vertigo, nausea, vomiting, headache, and, rarely, hypoacusis. Clinical history appropriate neurological evaluation essential for diagnosis. We present the case 65-year-old female with dysarthria, hearing loss, progressing to right-side hemiparesis decreased level consciousness culminating in coma just few hours. She had an atherothrombotic BA was submitted mechanical thrombectomy full recanalization, resulting rapid improvement first days after treatment almost recovery during following months. Early suspicion posterior circulation stroke from paramount correct diagnosis timely treatment, which has important impact on disability mortality. complete recanalization can result positive outcome disease that would otherwise be extremely severe. All physicians should aware possible patients presenting or sudden hypoacusis meticulously search specific signs dysfunction such as nystagmus, gaze palsies, hemiparesis, consciousness.

Basilar artery occlusion.

Twenty patients with basilar artery occlusion and three patients with bilateral vertebral artery occlusions have been studied. The clinical data at the time of the ictus and the long-term follow-up data have been correlated with the site and extent of the basilar artery occlusion and the type of collateral flow. Patients with hypertension and with coma at the outset have a grave prognosis. The ...
